Simple Effects

It is evident that I am able to edit an image as it is but am I able to create Atmospheric Effects? Such as creating physical wind, rain, fog, snow, clouds etc. that is the main purpose of this image as you may see at the end.
Unfortunately I did not post upon how I created these effects but the prose’s was long and tiring. And there fore I must explain
When creating the fog effect: after removing the image from its background on multiple layers you must preserver until you create a cloud with the right Gaussian blur and low opacity then you must change its color through the photo shops color balance and a few blending effects like screen to create a bright thick fog.
When creating rain or slow it is a matter of the size of white splats you have and the motion blur and blending options once more.

Magazines

These magazine flat plans are just a brief overview of what i wish my magazine to look like, and though the cover lines as well as the image and content/ text are not as what my magazines would be are a guidance. also besides the main feature i asked for my class mates to help me understand what needs to be added and taken out most of all i asked for a lot of negative comments so my magazine can reach its maximum goal!

The magazine flat plans above contained the following comments as i expected (e.g. font is unreadable, messy not structure, needs more color, unattractive content, unrelated. but received one or two positive comments such as great front photo, largely sized masthead, though unrelated to genre.

Practice effects

On photoshop i decided to expereimnt with photoshop to prepare my editing skills...and i am soon to beging experimenting with Indesign. I created three images with a background change because that is the main thing i will be focusing on because most magazines of the same guenre as mine those not simply add a gradient background, also because it is unprofessional and overall attractive.

Schedule

My schedule for the photo shoot has been canceled to insure that my shoot can be taken at a better location; also the models where unavailable at the Moment, for reasons such as feeling poorly or genuinely being unavailable

Poses

When I am picking for the models who I want to be in my shoot I am not looking for just a beautiful face because it is very irrelevant I am looking for those who are able to give me a successful outcome. There is a lots thing required to create a sensational image if you look at high fashion print modeling or television commercial stars they are able to pose in ways that emit great emotion and connect to the audience, therefore I will need to learn there ways so that my models will be able to emit a proper modeling poses for the camera.
I started by selecting ten different modeling poses from fashion magazines and warned each model to practice each one until they felt they have them all down pat. They posed along side the image to compare their modeling poses to the professionals.
Also I warned that along side the pose there must be a facial expression – and that little bits of the body must be kept kaput such as little things as “keep your hands under control”. For I have noticed that any pose can be lifeless and unimaginative without any visible facial expression.
I also told my soon to be models that if they are able to develop any of these poses they are free to as long as they are professional. Body language and facial expressions are natural but the image I am projecting might not be exactly as they are and here I gentle told my models I will be there guidance.

Trial: Photoshoot

For my magazine i have finally decided on the articles from Viewing R&B Magazine's and BBC Music magazine and Jazz times magazine.
The outfit that i suggested that all my models wore for teusday was smart causal wear which could be for the women a shirt/ polo with a skirt and for the men a shirt polo jeans or trousers.

Audience research

Asked my audience which were mainly teenagers and a few adults which of the slogan and title best suit my magazine; they agreed that the square was perfect and surprisenly chose E=MC2 when i favored are you square enogh? fortunately the title are you square enogh seems rather mature.

Front cover (flatplan)

This is the flatplan of my magazine.
Yellow boxes: Information about the magazine such as date and issue/ writer. bottow right barcode/ price
Purple area: Background - abstract or gradient depending on emotion.
Blue area: Text cover lines and main title ( articles)
Green boxes: Top/ bottom banner exposeing extra's.
Orange box: Exclusiv/ world exclusive/ plus
Light blue: subheaddings
red box: Masthead
Black shadow: Main image

On the cover lines there will be images so that the multiple audience may not be driven away by the singular image that will try 2 attract all audience. The theme is going to be colour full yet be able to target boh sex.
the colour hopefull will not target only the hip-R&B tribes and may be dimmered to give it a adult and mature tone.

The square

I have added my main image into an abstract gradient background.
I thought to my self that a medium shot is very regular in magazines and would be of use as because there would be a higher intensity in eye contact, and effect.
I then contested that when i asked several teenagers of which they preferred.
I then decided i needed a quality text producing software and figured the adobe illustrator which i played with to create a samlpe font- which was a sample font- i decided to make a comic style text as an example of a Masthead.
But then i needed to choose a font style and that was when i found the perfect text both my choose as well as my audiences preference.
The responses i got where that the text was ideal to the style because it was classy because of its extremely long Q tale.
I found that music magazine fonts are usually bold, and contested it once again with my audience favoring my hidden ideal text.

Animation

This animation is a sort of mind map which looks into the sorts of things my magazine should feature, for example: it needs to be the best of its contenders by “featuring” The best of British music, Competitions, contain strong kicker Cover lines (luring the audience), Vibrant, Abstract through various editing techniques, contain Star persona, New modern artists/ style, Props within the environment, and few Instruments if available, it is very important that there is an Exclusive as well as Live performance because this really gets every reader closer to the product.

Main photo (flatplan)

I have found that photography is a very powerful medium and also a very difficult craft; Excellent photos don’t only look good — they emit emotion and information, awake feelings and manage to share with the audience the emotions a photographer experienced when clicking the shot button. Taking excellent pictures is very hard as you need to find a perfect perspective and consider the perfect timing. To achieve brilliant photography you need to be persistent and patience. This drawing i produced is only showing the simplicity of the image i will take, and a brief idea of the attire which my model will be wearing. i hope for my model to be female, and and of similar personality-when viewed.

BBC

The BBC appeal to different audiences …
It uses popular television programmes such as Top Of The Pops to promote its magazines. It also uses the internet (bbc music magazine)-all sorts of media.
Therefore it is important that my magazine to advertised in a similar way, but both internet and television.
On the internet the square will use popular sites such as YouTube and I tunes to promote its content and uses.

Analysis

This is a short analysis of the music magazine I soon will create; I have gathered the following information through questionnaires and interviews. Information I gathered about magazines in general have also been put into prospective and added to the “must have” of my magazine.
Firstly I would like to clarify that the Age Group of the square magazine is between twelve and twenty-four, and it targets males and females. My magazine will be sold twelve times a year, with a slight change of theme-not house-depending on its season.
It is important that my magazine does not target or have a specific social tribe, this being because it targets all sorts of people- but, the social class of my magazine will be from C1-B. Music magazines I have found through both observation and interview: customers are willing to pay nothing higher than a pound. therefore, I decided that my magazine should be less…My magazine will be 99p; Even though I removed simply a penny the sign 99p seems to be attractive and part customers with there money.
Not specific but targets a social class from C1 unto B

the central images which will appear on all of the pages seem to be very important, as well as the article; the customer wants a structured theme and something eye catching. My magazine is targeting people of all demographic and geography and therefore ethnicity is not important: to get this idea over to the consumer the front cover as well as content will feature people of different background (obviously with the same interest) The genre of my magazine has been stated from the very beginning and unlike most magazines will feature four different genres: jazz & classical as well as Rhythm and blues. To make this mixture smoothly cooperate with each other I am to shorten the names of these music types creating almost a hybrid. This hybrid I am creating is an attempt to creating a new social tribe. Firstly I mixed Jazz and Classical to create Jazzical and Rhythm and blues into R&B. lastly, I had to combine the two, and that was when I got…jazzical R&B.
Trough observation I have noticed that the same musicians show up on every magazine covers of music magazines these days, so it is important to bring in a new artist.
The artist will relate to my audience and obviously be and exclusive.
Music magazines have less to offer music lovers apart from competitions they do not really want, so instead I need to offer tickets to events
On my cover I must acknowledge that covers do not need a lot of text around it to support it. But rather to catch the people's eyes later on. For it is the images that catch there attention as they are walking past a magazine; The image has to be eye-catching, be it a beautiful landscape image, or lightly provocative- or it will target a whole different type of people- Once the image grabs someone's attention for the double-look, then hopefully the text will help maintain interest and convince the consumer to purchase the magazine.
I have also noticed that magazines rarely put the names of their journalists on the cover any more, perhaps because they feel it seems slightly old-fashioned and pompous; I on the other hand will use this to my advantage, because then the readers will lookout for these reader to read more on what they write, therefore promoting our self’s.
My magazine overall will appeal to an audience and grab there full attention, it will put across our views, and convince them to follow the band wagon; therefore the people aimed need to feel they are included in the show and are part of it. Else they will migrate to a new style or magazine.
Because my magazine is targeting a young audience, it should try to feature a young memorable face “the next big thing” and promote them to success, they would then feel attached to the magazine, featuring on many issues and giving there fans to us.
My magazine will feature an interesting and suitable topics that will entertain whilst inform the audience.
It will not bring in issues such as, teenage affairs/ pregnancy in form of gossip as because then the audience would lower, instead the topics will be rather mature.
It will involve technology giving the audience a chance to socialize online and identify them self’s.
My audience and other people will be able to judge by magazine by its cover as well as recognize it. Readers usually scan the cover of a magazine for a glimpse of what's inside. So... the single most important thing is that the cover must be engaging if not the customers will die off. When you look at a magazine it must say, "Pick me up now! / ooo that’s Ultra cheap! / WOW!!!"
The important adjustments I would need to make to my magazine to achieve this style are imagery. It must show the most fascinating, visually attractive image available (which is relevant to the issue's content). Magazines that have only illustrations on their covers, photography is by far the most used attention grabber. They are glossy and high definition (usually airbrushed) especially if having people on the cover.
In a magazine Eye contact is a must and very important! The eyes are the window to the soul and can convey feelings and engage the readers...
Secondly every magazine should have an easily identifiable masthead so that the reader can quickly find the magazine they enjoyed the last time and be able to get the forth coming issue. Lastly Magazines are well constructed and interesting it must also feature cover lines even though they seem slightly less attractive. These cover lines should show a strong use of typography which does not work against the imagery but supports it.
The text must not be a strong invert to the color scheme of a magazine but be able to blend, I also noticed in magazines it is possible for the text of a magazine and the background to be of the same color and still be clearly visible even though it is not really accepted.
The use of color can help convey the tone of the content, and the stronger the better- The bigger the better and so on. For example black and white covers or red tinted/ gauged, or those that are dark, adopt a more serious tone. But then, it could be sales killer if you are attracting a young audience, who like the, theme colorful…
Magazine usually feature an advertisement in the contents; even though that it is a single contents page there still would be room for a little, because people like big colorful ads.
The square magazine will be Young, fresh and musically inspired, it is important that while creating this magazine I understand that There are currently over 3,300 consumer magazines to choose from and that On average, each magazine is actually read for a total of 50 minutes, Each magazine is picked up 5.4 times before it is finished with, therefore my magazine has to be completely mind-blowing.

record labels

Record label

Music magazines are usually dedicated to a certain type of music and subculture. Most music magazines focus on one genre although some magazines tend to extend there audience. They usually contain: music that has similar elements to other genres, they feature star persona and various genres through singers/musicians.

Stars are often characterized differently depending on there audience; beyonce, Alicia Dixon could be presented in a pop or rnb magazine- in which they are shown as a cute grown up feminine star or rather provocative in the next.

Music magazine Genre targets certain audiences so it needs to be specific, (E.G 7-13 years old)

Apart from the big music labels there are also independent labels that operate without funding from major record labels. Even though they are on their own they still appear to feature on other labels E.G Eminem.

Major labels since 2008 (Big Four)

  1. Warner Music Group
  2. EMI
  3. Sony Music Entertainment
  4. Universal Music Group

There are four main music record labels that sell compositions, recordings and performances of music. These major record labels target different origins and background each of these major labels consists of smaller companies and labels serving different regions and markets.

Record label companies manage brands, trademarks and they organize the production of videos for broadcast and retail sale

This interview that i had with my fellow students and few outsiders has been summarized so that the information can be digested easily and as i look back to this piece of information For example: no airbrushed images, even though most magazines feature them and no cheesy font and ... maybe introduce live performances, rather than cds or i tune download as it brings the group closer to recognizing each other.
